History of the e-mail


  • · The e-mail was never invented it had evolved from very simple beginnings
  • · One of the first e-mail system was MAILBOX used at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1965. Another program were you could send messages was called SNDMSG
  • · Ray Tomlinson was created in creating the first e-mail in 1972, Tomlinson worked for Bolt Beranek and Newman as an ARPANET contractor
  • · He picked the “@” symbol from a keyboard to symbolises sending a message from one computer to another
  • · The first message was sent between two computers that were literally side by side, the only physical connection they had was that they were connected through ARPANET
